(MATTHEWS) -- Family Dollar Stores, Inc. has named Paul White to the position of Senior Vice President of Apparel, Home and Seasonal. White is the former President, CEO and Director of Goody's LLC.

"Creating an exciting offering of discretionary merchandise to complement our growing consumable assortment is the cornerstone to being a compelling place to shop for our customers," said Dorlisa Flur, Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer for Matthews-based Family Dollar. "With Paul's leadership, we will further improve merchandise selection and in-store presentation of these dynamic areas of our assortment, adding more of the fun of finding a unique treasure in apparel, home, and seasonal items for our customers to enjoy."

In his executive role with Goody's, White was instrumental in refocusing the merchandising and marketing strategies while leading the company's exit from bankruptcy.  White has a long history in the retail and department store industry.
