(RALEIGH) -- Advocates for solar power and other clean energy options hope a trip to the legislature on Wednesday will further their cause. Lawmakers will hear from supporters pushing several pieces of legislation designed to create jobs in the clean energy sector.
Supporters claim the Solar Jobs Bill in both the House and Senate and the Energy Independence and Job Creation Bill in the Senate would create 8,350 jobs by 2015.
The Solar Jobs Bill would increase the amount of solar power utilities are required to generate as part of their output mix, from 0.2 percent to 0.4 percent by 2018. The Energy Independence and Job Creation Bill would focus on stimulating market driven competition in the clean energy sector.
