(WINSTON-SALEM) -- A federal judge on Monday blocked an FDA requirement that would have forced tobacco companies to put graphic images on cigarette packages. Bryan Hatchell, Director of Financial Communications with Winston-Salem based Reynolds American, said they are please that the judge felt the issue needed more scrutiny.

"We're pleased with the judge's ruling and look forward the the court's final resolution in this case," said Hatchell. "This is a preliminary injunction and so the judge's ruling, I think, will stand until an additional hearing takes place."

The judge ruled that the graphic images go beyond conveying the health risks of smoking.  The U.S. Justice Department is reviewing the judge's the ruling.
