(RALEIGH) -- As Gov. Bev Perdue and state lawmakers consider a new deal that would allow as casino in western North Carolina to expand with live dealers, the Internet Based Sweepstakes Organization of North Carolina wants lawmaker to also consider legislation to regulate the video sweepstakes industry.

A new Cherokee Gaming Compact under consideration by the Governor and State Legislature will expand legal gaming in North Carolina and should open the door for a regulated video sweepstakes industry according to the IBSO. The IBSO is in favor of allowing the Cherokee Indians, who operate the Harrahs Cherokee Casino, to have live dealers, but the organization wants more. They believe a new compact with the Cherokee would put the Legislature and the Governor on record supporting new gaming rights and regulations.

"As the Governor and Legislature looks at new gaming rights for the Cherokee, we want them to take a second look at the video sweepstakes industry," said Chase Brooks, president of the Internet Based Sweepstakes Organization of North Carolina.  "It's great the Cherokee will be getting dice games, roulette and live poker dealers, but what about the people who can't afford the $1000 it takes to drive to the mountains, stay in a hotel and go to the casino? What about the consumer who wants to play $20 and have a good time right at home?"

The IBSO wants leaders of the state to work with the video entertainment industry to find ways to regulate. "Do like they are doing in Cherokee, tax it to generate new revenues with it," added Brooks.
