(RALEIGH) -- Heavy equipment maker Caterpillar Inc. plans to expand its manufacturing facilities in Johnston County. The move means about 200 new jobs over the next five years and an investment of $33 million.
Gov. Bev Perdue confirmed that the company is eligible for state grants that could total over $2 million. “Creating jobs is my top priority,” said Perdue. “And the fact that globally competitive companies continue to make investments like these in North Carolina proves that our legacy of investing in education and worker training has paid off."
Caterpillar will expand its existing operations in Clayton, which are part of Caterpillar’s Building Construction Products Division. "As we see global demand for our products increase, we continue to make long-term investments like this in our facilities to help meet customer needs,” said Mary Bell, Caterpillar vice president with responsibility for the Building Construction Products Division.
