For the first time since 2002, complaints about lending topped the list. Consumers filed complaints about interest rate hikes, charges for late payments, foreclosure relief scams and other lending related issues. Second on the list are complaints about health care. Although complaints associated with health care were down sharply from the prior year. The third largest number of complaints in North Carolina in 2011 were associated with Do Not Call violators. The number of complaints in this category were up slightly when compared to 2010.

“If you didn’t get what you paid for or think you’ve been scammed, we want to know about it," said Cooper. "But we’d rather help you avoid trouble in the first place by warning you about common problems.”
