(CHARLOTTE) -- The planners for the Democratic National Convention have called an audible. The opening day kickoff event, originally set for the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, will be held in the Queen City's Uptown instead.
Dan Murray, the Executive Director of Charlotte in 2012, said further research determined the speedway would provide too big of a logistical hurdle. "As we went through the process of planning, it became apparent that the logistics involved of moving people up there, having the caucus meetings up there and doing that, we could better achieve what we had originally hoped for, making this open accessible and a big event that celebrates the Carolinas and also as a kick-off event for Convention activities by having it here," said Murray.
Murray and other top Democratic officials have downplayed reports that the convention was having financial issues.
