(RALEIGH) -- Eleven million dollars worth of incentives helped a global company decide to add 460 new jobs at its Research Triangle Park offices. NetApp is a data storage firm that already employs 1,400 people in RTP.

In making the announcement on Monday, Gov. Bev Perdue elaborated on what role incentives played in convincing NetApp to expand in North Carolina. "Part of the reason is always the incentives," said Perdue. "Lots of people in North Carolina think incentives are wrong, that it's not the right way to do business and because I've been on the front lines over the last three-and-a-half years in a really competitive environment, because of the economy, the incentives play a major role in closing the deal."

The average salary for the new jobs will be just over $100,000 a year. The expansion will focus on research and development.
