(CHARLOTTE) -- Time Warner Cable is expanding its state-of-the-art network by offering Wi-Fi hot spots across uptown Charlotte. The launch of TWC WiFi™ will provide fast, reliable Internet access to any Wi-Fi-enabled laptop, phone or tablet.

"We know how much Time Warner Cable customers enjoy our fast Internet speeds at home and at work. Taking their Internet service outside their living rooms and offices is another way we can enhance the experience for our Internet customers.” said Carol Hevey, executive vice president of operations, Time Warner Cable East.

TWC WiFi Hotspots are now available in Charlotte around Center City, Southend, Myers Park, Dilworth and Midtown. Users can easily access TWC WiFi via the free WiFi Finder App for both iOS and Android mobile device platforms. The downloadable app helps users easily find, default to and authenticate indoor and outdoor TWC WiFi Hotspots.

TWC WiFi is accessible to Time Warner Cable customers who subscribe to Standard or higher Internet service and all Time Warner Cable Business Class Internet customers for free by entering their TWC email address and password. Guests can also access TWC WiFi through pay-as-you-go options, starting with a TWC Access Pass for as little as $2.95 for one hour.

Residential and business customers are also able to access the Internet when they travel nationwide. Customers can connect to TWC WiFi in New York City, Southern Connecticut, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Los Angeles. Time Warner Cable has also partnered with other cable companies to offer access to more than 100,000 hotspots across the country by the end of 2012.

In addition to TWC WiFi, Time Warner Cable is opening its network and making WiFi available to ALL residents, businesses and visitors during the Democratic National Convention. WiFi access will be available for free in uptown Charlotte and inside Time Warner Cable Arena from August 27 through September 7, 2012.

“Time Warner Cable is using its advanced technology to enable a more connected experience for everyone during the Democratic National Convention — and for everyone living, working or visiting our city over the long term,” added Hevey.

Along with wireless connectivity, Time Warner Cable is making additional investments that also have implications lasting beyond the Democratic National Convention:

  • Redundant fiber-optic network feeds to Time Warner Cable Arena and Bank of America Stadium, to ensure uninterrupted service.
  • Additional fiber-optic network feeds to several Uptown Charlotte hotels and venues which will help maintain high speeds and accessibility
  • Upgrade Time Warner Cable Arena video services to an all-digital platform.

Including TWC WiFi, the total investment being made to the uptown Charlotte network infrastructure tops $2 million.
