(RALEIGH) -- Many people came out Tuesday morning across North Carolina to find cars encased in ice and snow.  From the mountains to the southeast coast, ice and snow made the early morning commute a challenge.  This is expected to be the case possibly through the Thursday morning commute.

"It's going to take a while.  Temperatures are going to stay on the cold side of normal for the next couple days across much of North Carolina.  Today we're only climbing into the low to mid 30s over much of the state," said Moss.

He said anything daytime thawing will create problems as the temperatures plunge at night.  "We will have to watch overnight as we drop into the 20s for some refreezing of any melt water and places that didn't clear all that much today to harden back up again.  We could have some slippery problems toward Wednesday morning."  Moss said certainly roads in the mountains will remain hazardous for quite some time, but even outside the mountains, slick spots could show up on roadways through Thursday morning.
