(WINSTON-SALEM) -- The winter weather is taking its toll on aid organizations in North Carolina. Tammy Caudill with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest North Carolina said that the recent winter storms have forced a 25-percent drop in food drive donations compared to last year, while the need has increased 100-percent.
"People are not donating as much because they are not going out as much. They're not going to the grocery store as many times, so they're not passing those drives at the grocery store, the weather is keeping them in," said Caudill.
The weather has also made it tougher to deliver food to clients. The food bank serves an 18-county area, and the snow has hit some of those counties very hard.
Caudill said that monetary donations are always welcome. One dollar can buy seven nutritious meals. She encourages those who would like to help go on-line at at hungernwnc.org.
