(RALEIGH) -- State officials are bringing in a former Wake County judge to help reform the SBI crime lab. Attorney General Roy Cooper has named Vince Rozier as the Department of Justice’s first ombudsman.
Cooper said Rozier will be asked to serve as an independent liaison for the criminal justice system. "Who will work at the direction of the Department of Justice with the State Bureau of Investigation to address questions and resolve issues of concerns for the public and the criminal justice system," said Cooper.
The forensic crime lab has been under scrutiny after an independent review identified 190 cases where forensic investigators used questionable practices.
