(RALEIGH) -- The North Carolina Department of Transportation wants to hear from citizens who often find themselves as pedestrian or bicyclists. Spokesperson Julia Merchant said the department is looking to make improvements.

"We want the public that use bicycles or use sidewalks or other pedestrian facilities in North Carolina to tell us how their experience is so we can help improve it, particularly when it comes to safety," said Merchant.

The survey is open to all North Carolina residents and visitors until Feb. 8, and can be accessed on NCDOT’s Division of Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation website.  Merchant said already they've received feedback from close to 8,000 people.
