(RALEIGH) --The Chancellor of North Carolina State University is calling for significant cuts in the university's budget. Randy Woodson said Tuesday that there will be layoffs at the Raleigh institution.
"We'll reduce organizational bureaucracy by reviewing all university policies, rules and regulations. We will streamline this organization to be effective and efficient. There's no doubt that we will lose positions with such a deep reduction in our budget," said Woodson.
Woodson is asking school officials to consolidate business services and some academic units to reduce administrative costs in advance of anticipated significant budget cuts by the state. He outlined the general focus of the cuts on Tuesday but said a final plan should be in place by mid-March and start being implemented by the beginning of the new fiscal year in July.
