(GREENSBORO) -- Tuesday marks the 51st anniversary of the day that four students from North Carolina A&T State University sat at the all-white lunch counter at the Woolworth's in downtown Greensboro and refused to leave without being served. Dr. Judy Rasheed, Dean of Students at North Carolina A&T said the "Four" took a stand against social injustice and showed what students can do.
"So we encourage our students to stay involved in the community be it environment protection or some social justice issue or whatever their endeavor to be a leader and so this reminds them that they are to stay involved and be a part of the community service," said Rasheed.
Ezell Blair, Franklin McCain, Joseph McNeil and David Richmond were freshmen when they began what became the Sit-In Movement. The university will hold several events to honor the four.
