(RALEIGH) -- The move to raise tuition at all UNC system schools is a move to counteract the lack of funding from the General Assembly this year, according to university officials. Charles Mercer, of the budget and finance committee, said the average tuition increases will be $206 per student.
"We think that will help continue the policy of the Board of Governors to have good, quality education in North Carolina, high retention rates and high graduation rates and quality faculty for those students," said Mercer.
The UNC Board of Governors voted unanimously to raise tuition at all UNC System campuses on Friday. The General Assembly must still approve the proposal.
