(CHARLOTTE) -- Could 2012 be a rematch for the governor's office? Former Republican Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory said he is looking at the idea of challenging Democratic Gov. Beverly Perdue next year.

"I've traveled across the state trying to find out if I do run will people support me or if I announce will I look back and see no one there," said McCrory.

McCrory was critical of Perdue's veto and plans not to sign a bill that would override the mandate in the federal health care that people have to buy health insurance and add North Carolina to the list of states challenging the president Obama-backed health care plan. He said  the governor should take a stand on the health care debate.
