Former Raleigh doctor avoids second degree murder |

(RALEIGH) -- A former Raleigh doctors has been found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, felony death by motor vehicle and DWI. Prosecutors had sought second degree murder against Raymond Cook in the death of 20-year-old Elena Shapiro of Winston-Salem.
Jurors deliberated for about nine hours on Monday. During this time they submitted a question to the judge asking for the definition of the word "malice" as it relates to this case. The jury resumed deliberations on Tuesday morning and a verdict was announced just before noon.
