(RALEIGH) -- Recent rain has improved dry conditions in some parts of the state but not everywhere.  North Carolina News Network Meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said most of North Carolina is still registering some level of drought.

"The issues that were in the mountains have shifted to the coast and so the coast is now abnormally dry," said Gardner.  That's not typically a big problem but Central North Carolina, for the last several weeks, has been under severe drought.  None of that changed.  We've had several rain events over the last seven or eight days, none of those really producing much rain."

Gardner added that the 15 or so central counties that are in the severe drought category need several rain events of an inch or more to really have an impact.
