(RALEIGH) -- The Governor's Highway Safety Program and the State Highway Patrol have launched the “No Need 2 Speed” campaign which runs through April 3rd. Spokesman Beth Horner said state and local law enforcement agencies will step up patrols to catch speeders on interstates and major four-lane highways.
"Those officers are out across the state really cracking down on people, trying to get them to obey the posted speed limit signs that are out there, so you're going to be seeing some stepped up enforcement around the state and basically we're just trying to get people to slow down," said Horner.
She added that during the last campaign in November, law-enforcement agencies cited 26,870 motorists for speeding. Motorist are also encouraged to report dangerous driving to the State Highway Patrol by dialing *HP on cellular phones from anywhere in the state.
