(RALEIGH)  -- Wake County Schools Superintendent Tony Tata aims to have more minority teachers in place within the district. Tata says he's launching a recruiting effort after finding that just 13-percent of Wake County teachers are minorities.

Minorities make up 50 percent of the Wake County School district's student enrollment, but only 13 percent of its faculty.  Tata says he's launching an initiative to recruit minority teachers.

Tata says he will focus predominantely on African-American universities in North Carolina and throughout the southeast.
