(RALEIGH) -- Auto insurance as you know it could change if several bills under consideration at the state legislature are approved. State Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin is sounding the alarm because he believes every family would be impacted.
"We have the lowest car insurance rates in the south. We have the lowest average car insurance rates, 8th in the country. We're the biggest state in the whole country with the lowest average car insurance rates," said Goodwin.
He said just about a year-and-a-half ago, his department ordered refunds of about $50 million due to excessive charges. Goodwin said if these bills pass, his office will no longer have that authority.
There are a total of 3 related bills under consideration. He said they are only about corporate greed.
