(RALEIGH) -- Around 85-percent of Progress Energy customers that lost power during the weekend tornadoes have had service restored. Progress Energy spokesman Scott Sharpe said extra crews have aided the recovery efforts.

"We did bring in about 500 extra crew members.  These include our own employees from other parts of our service territory as well as from Duke Energy Carolinas.  We have about 1,500 resources out in the field working," said Sharpe.

As of Monday morning, 32,000 Progress Energy customers remained without power.  At one point during the weekend, over 300,000 Progress Energy customers were without power.
