(BALTIMORE) -- Officials in Maryland confirmed on Thursday that a body found Wednesday in a river is that of a missing Union County teenager. Sixteen-year-old Phylicia Barnes of Monroe disappeared on December 28, 2010 from the Baltimore home she was visiting.

A medical examiner used dental records to identify the body.  Maryland State Police Superintendent Col. Terrence Sheridan said it is possible that Barnes could have died shortly after she vanished in December. "It's not out of the realm of possibility that the body could have been in the water that long.  Remember, the Susquehanna River is a cold running river about 200 miles long.  We've had a cold winter," said Sheridan.

The disappearance and death is still very much a mystery, according to officials.  Police say there were no signs of injuries or wounds on Barnes' body.
