(RALEIGH) -- Hurricane season begins June 1, and Progress Energy storm response is ready for whatever Mother Nature brings.

Scott Sutton says the power company has a detailed plan in place to activate employees directly involved with power restoration quickly and decisively in response to major storms.

"It allows customers to report an outage at their home via the web. And what that means is for some mobile devices that are compatible, that they can go on and use their phone and report an outage through their phone. We want them to have as many options as possible to tell us about it."

Progress Energy urges customers to take steps now to be prepared in advance of hurricane season.
