(WINSTON-SALEM) -- A five-year-old Virginia girl is reported in stable condition at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center after her grandmother attempted to kill her and herself in a motel room in Winston-Salem.

Police say the youngster and 43-year-old Angela Terri Lynch of Christansburg had ingested various medications in an apparent murder-suicide attempt.

Winston-Salem Police Lt. Ron Rose said both the grandmother and the child were found in a hotel in a semi-conscious state. "The child was found to have injuries which were inflicted by Mrs. Lynch. Mrs. Lynch was suffering from similar injuries, which were self-inflicted," he said.

Lynch is being held without bond on charges of two counts of attempted murder, first-degree kidnapping and felony child abuse.
