(MORRISVILLE) -- With gas prices high, there's a surging movement to buy power from a solar energy company. Blair Kendall with Southern Energy Management said customers today can only purchase energy from corporate providers, like Duke Energy or Progress Energy. A bill currently in the General Assembly could change that.

"That would like to, sort of in a limited way, allow more market competition and customer choice by allowing solar generators to sell power to an on-site facility under two megawatts," said Kendall.

He added that corporate energy companies are against the plan because it represents a loss of revenue for them. Although Kendall admits companies like Duke Energy and Progress Energy would lose some revenue, he said the net result would be very minimal.
