(RALEIGH) -- Three protesters, including former U.S. Senate hopeful Jim Neal, ran out on the House floor today. The group was protesting legislation in the General Assembly that would create a constitutional amendment establishing that marriage in North Carolina is between one man and one woman.

The amendment was not being discussed on the House floor at the time of the outburst.

State House Speaker Thom Tillis stated concern about the disruption. "There was another disrespectful and disruptive display that's not tolerated in this House," he said.

All three protesters were later arrested.
