The Legislative Black Caucus is asking House Speaker Thom Tillis to denounce comments made by Rep. Stephen LaRoque about the North Carolina NAACP president and other civil rights speakers. Representative Rodney Moore says there needs to be more civility among lawmakers and other groups.
"I would hope that we can disagree without being disagreeable. And I think representative LaRoque's comments were a little over the top, considering the fact that he does hold a position of power and has a forum."

LaRoque has referred to the NAACP as a “racist” group and, in a letter, said, “I have no interest in receiving anything from a racist such as William Barber.” Barber is president of the North Carolina NAACP.
