(ASHEVILLE) -- A recent study says if you change your eating habits to follow the government's new nutrition guidelines, it could cost you hundreds of dollars more a year at the grocery store. Ingles dietician Leah McGrath says that doesn't have to be the case, if you shop smart.

She suggests buying store brand items, buying fruits and vegetables in bulk and buying fruits when they are in season and less expensive. McGrath says also to save, take advantage of coupons. She says you don't have to be rich to eat healthy.

The My Plate standards say we need to eat more potassium, vitamin D, dietary fiber and calcium.
