(CHARLOTTE) -- The price of gas is falling in North Carolina but Tom Crosby of AAA Carolinas said the Tar Heel State is still tracking a few cents above the national average.
"Statewide the average price is now $3.61 a gallon. That's about 3-cents less than it was a month ago and 5-cents less than it was a week ago," said Crosby.
He expects the price to keep moving downward with the next significant drop coming after Labor Day when the vacation season ends. Even with the drop in prices, it is still 95-cents a gallon more than it was this time a year ago.
Traveling around North Carolina, motorists might see a wide range of gas prices. "There is always a disparity in a local market between station's prices. We found it as much as 25-cents a gallon at times," added Crosby.
He said the Fayetteville area has the state's lowest prices, averaging just over $3.58 a gallon, while the Triangle region has the highest prices averaging $3.63 a gallon.
