(ASHEVILLE) -- North Carolina is topless friendly, and residents of Asheville will get a double dose this weekend. A group called Go Topless (gotopless.org) is planning to bare it all on Sunday near the main park to raise awareness of what they say is a social stigma in the United States associated with women going topless.

Asheville Police Lieutenant Wally Welch says that it's not illegal for women to go topless. "According to North Carolina general statute, it does not identify the female breast as a private part. And certainly the city is not in any position to redefine private parts beyond what the state already does," he said.

Welch says they don't expect any problems, but will monitor the situation just in case.

Similar demonstrations are also planned this Sunday in a dozen other cities across the US, as 13 cities are officially topless.
