(RALEIGH) -- State House Speaker Tom Tillis held several town hall meeting across the state to talk about issues still facing the General Assembly. Tillis said the meetings went well.
"We've had good feedback. People are asking about all kinds of questions. We've had a little bit of protest from the Defense of Marriage matter that we may take up in a couple of weeks, but all of them were civil. All of them were respectful exchanges even with people that we disagreed with," said Tillis.
Lawmakers come back to Raleigh for a session beginning September 12th to take up issues like "Defense of Marriage". The measure seeks to ask voters in November 2012 whether to amend the state constitution to state that marriage is between one man and one woman.
