The North Carolina Employment Security Commission announced Friday that unemployment in the State rate rose three-tenths in August to 10.4 percent. Rick Henderson of the John Locke Foundation says these monthly updates are misleading.
"It's based on the information that the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Employment Securities Commission churns out of it's computers. But just because it fits a computer model doesn't mean it really reflect what's going on ... these reports are not the gospel truth. They are really based on estimates."
Henderson says government, quite often, uses statistical programs to estimate how man people should be employed in the state and across the country, not how many people are actually employed.
