(RALEIGH) -- The coast of North Carolina saw a good deal of rain and some wind as a rather powerful low pressure system moved off shore. National Weather Service Meteorologist Gail Hartfield said no significant damage was reported.

As much as five inches of rain fell in some coastal areas. "That soil can handle that amount of rain.  That wasn't a big problem.  They did have a little bit of over wash, especially on the inland side of the sounds," said Hartfield.

The system ushered in cold air across North Carolina. Hartfield said the mountains could see a little bit of snow on Thursday. "Mainly on the western facing slopes and obviously the higher elevations, they'll have a chance of rain/snow mix as we start getting that colder air aloft in the atmosphere down to those higher elevations."

No precipitation is forecast for the rest of the state this week.
