(RALEIGH) -- A group called NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina Foundation released a report Monday that suggests most crisis pregnancy centers are offering inaccurate information about the health risks associated with abortions. Executive director Carey Pope questioned the transparency of some crisis centers.
"Lines are crossed when the center is not up-front about its limited services or when a center uses misinformation or intimidation and unfortunately that's what appears to be happening in North Carolina," said Pope.
The group is calling on lawmakers to pass new regulations would require disclosure of whether staff is medically trained, whether facility operators have any bias toward abortion and a mandate that patient records be kept confidential.
Pregnancy Support Services of Wake Forest CEO Amber Lehman said she would be okay with additional regulations for crisis centers, as long as they apply to everybody. "So if they're requiring us to provide X-Y-Z, then that should be required at abortion clinics as well and vice-versa," said Lehman. She added that people are given accurate information at her facility.
