(RALEIGH) -- State health officials say there are now nine confirmed cases of E. Coli infections in North Carolina. Most of the cases are in Wake County but two of the latest are in Johnston and Cleveland counties.  Eight of the nine people did attend the North Carolina State Fair.

Sue Lynn Ledford, Community Health Director in Wake County, said it is still too early to make any positive conclusions. "We're never 100 percent confident on finding the source, but we do know that by doing the thorough investigations that we can be very close to 100 percent," said Ledford.

She added that investigations like this can sometimes take weeks, but she believes it will be be at least several more days before more definitive information is known about the source of the bacteria. Seven of the nine victims are children.
