(LEXINGTON) -- Two deaths are being blamed on severe weather that moves through an area just southeast of Lexington Wednesday evening. Lt. Alton Hanes with Davidson County emergency services identified one of the dead as a woman and the other as a child.
"As far as any other specifics pertaining the circumstances, we're not releasing that as of yet, but we do have two confirmed fatalities," said Hanes.
Lt. Hanes confirmed that some residents in Davidson County have been left with nothing. "Several houses with total destruction, we don't have confirmation the number of those structures, but from what I understand there were a number of houses that were totally destroyed."
National Weather Service Meteorologist officials were expected on the scene in Davidson County to survey the damage and determine whether or not one or more tornados are to blame for the destruction. "Based on the preliminary reports last night it looks to be like we had maybe at least one or two tornados that tracked through Davidson and Randolph counties," said National Weather Service Meteorologist Brandon Locklear. "We have a survey group that is going to go out and survey that."
