(WASHINGTON, D.C.) -- Almost six months after President Obama nonimated Richard Cordray to head the newly created Consumer Finance Protection Bureau, the confirmation remains stalled in the U.S. Senate. North Carolina Democratic Congressman Brad Miller said this needs to be fixed.
"Republicans in the Senate are preventing the agency from taking on the powers that Congress enacted, that Congress gave that agency under law and that the American people do strongly support," said Miller.
North Carolina's Attorney General Roy Cooper also visited Washington, DC as part of the push to get Cordray confirmed. The holdup is not necessarily associated with a problem with Cordray. Republicans maintain that the new agency has too much power.
