(DURHAM) -- A hearing to decide whether North Carolina novelist Michael Peterson gets a new trial is entering its third day on Thursday. Peterson's attorneys are focusing heavily on the credibility of former State Bureau of Investigation agent Duane Deaver, whose testimony helped convict Petersen of the murder of his wife in 2003.
In testimony on Wednesday, Timothy Palmbach, who worked in Connecticut's Forensic's Lab, said Deaver had a strong bias for the prosecution early in his career. "In reality, an expert coming into the courtroom really should care less what the outcome, should care less who hired them, should care less whether or not an individual is guilty or innocent," said Palmbach.
Deaver was a blood splatter analyst for the SBI fired earlier this year after an independent audit found flaws in his work.
