(RALEIGH)  --  To the surprise of no one, former Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory is planning to run for Governor again in 2012. He says he has plenty of objectives for his next run, the main one being the economy.

"We want to fix a broken government and a broken economy here in North Carolina. We can do so much better than what we have had the past three years, and I'm going to communicate a very strong message about that."

While an official announcement won't come until next month, McCrory says he's "100-percent" committed to running for governor in 2012. McCrory says he's looking to make manufacturing jobs more of a priority to boost the economy.

"I'm not going to give up on manufacturing; if we continue to be an economy that doesn't make things and build thing we will not be sustainable. You cannot have an economy in which you just buy things and have service jobs. It doesn't work."

McCrory adds that past and present administrations have lost touch with the importance of manufacturing.

"Ive heard the governor and past leaders say that we have only 21st century jobs. I think manufacturing jobs and agriculture jobs are still very crucial for our economy, and we have had too many leaders give up on it."

The 55-year-old McCrory has been speaking around the state gauging another campaign. He’s also been slowly assembling a campaign team and raising money with assistance from Governors Chris Christie of New Jersey and Bobby Jindal of Louisiana.

McCrory says he'll have an official announcement early next month, but says he's convinced this is the time to run again. McCrory lost to Governor Beverly Perdue in 2008. It was the closest gubernatorial race in 36 years.
