(WASHINGTON, D.C.) -- North Carolina's 13th District Rep. Brad Miller has announced he will not seek reelection. The decision comes as new district maps would have created a primary showdown between Miller and fellow Democrat Congressman David Price.
Miller has been contemplating the dilemma since last fall. "I've represented 31 percent of the news district. David has represented 33 percent of the new district and then 35 percent neither one of us has represented," said Miller.
In a statement released by Miller's office on Thursday morning he said he does not have an agreement with Rep. Price to step down and run again in two years.
“His decision today will avoid a divisive primary in the 4th District if the unfair and illegal maps drawn by General Assembly Republicans are allowed to govern this election," said Rep. Price in a statement released Thursday morning.
Both Miller and Pice have been long time political allies and friends.
