(CHAPEL HILL) -- In reaction to NCAA sanctions imposed on the UNC-Chapel Hill football program, former UNC Director of Athletics Dick Baddour said the decision is not something they want to fight. He said he and others thought a loss of just nine scholarships and no post season ban was enough.
"The NCAA has decided otherwise, so now it is appropriate that we accept that and that we move on," said Baddour.
The punishment ordered by the NCAA includes a one-year postseason ban, the loss of 15 scholarships over three years, and a $50,000 fine.
UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp said the university will not appeal the decision. "It didn't made sense to appeal given how long the appeal would take, given the success that other schools have had with appeals and perhaps most importantly the fact that the penalties would be suspended and we wouldn't be able to prepare to move forward," said Thorp.
The ban on post season play for UNC will mean that the team would not be able to in next season's ACC Championship game if they were to technically qualify for it.
