(CHARLOTTE) -- An effort is underway to remember and help those who did not get recognized when they returned from the Vietnam War and it culminates Saturday, March 31 at the Charlotte Motor Speedway. Retired Lt. Col. John Faulkenberry with the North Carolina USO said the Vietnam Veterans homecoming is long overdue.
"Why now? Why not celebrate the service and sacrifice," said Faulkenberry. "Many people say it's too little too late and those that were in Vietnam, they have that right to say that, but the 65,000 people are coming are wanting to honor those who did serve."
In addition to ceremonies and entertainment, the event will also provide a chance for Vietnam Veterans to get information about services that might help them.
