(WINSTON-SALEM) -- Taking leadership positions is one item North Carolina educators discussed recently at the North Carolina Association of Educators annual convention in Winston-Salem. NCAE president Sheri Strickland said she hopes policymakers and teachers can bridge the disconnect between theories that sound like good policy, but do not work when put into practice.
"Teachers need to be asked what it is they need to do their job well and then elected officials and administrators need to be about the business of making that happen," said Strickland. She added that too often people elected to school boards have little or no education experience, other than attending public schools themselves. Strickland believes it is time to change that.
