(RALEIGH) -- The North Carolina chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union is taking a closer look at how police acquire cell phone usage information. ACLU legal director Katie Parker, said some of their findings are troubling.
"We have many agencies that are seeking cell phone data from the cellular providers and not getting a warrant and sometimes not having much of a reason at all for seeking the data," said Parker.
She said they made requests of sheriff's departments in all 100 North Carolina counties and key police departments in the state's largest cities. She added that police should obtain a warrant to get cell phone information.
