(RALEIGH) -- A poll released on Monday, a day before the Tuesday primary, showed strong support for passage of the proposed state constitutional amendment defining marriage as only that between a man and a woman. Tom Jensen of Public Policy Polling Research said the bottom line question voters appear to be decided on is whether they support gay marriage.
"And I think what really this speaks to is the fact that most voters are seeing Amendment One as a referendum on whether they like gay marriage or not, even though the amendment does a lot more than that," said Jensen. "I think most voters are pretty much just seeing it as gay marriage or no gay marriage."
Jensen said the poll showed that around 59 percent support the amendment. In the poll, supporters out numbered opponents by around 16 percentage points.
