(RALEIGH) -- The second pre-season tropical storm in more than a century is set to soak coastal and eastern North Carolina on Wednesday. National Weather Service meteorologist Scott Sharpe said much of the state state will see at least some rain.

"It will bring a decent chance for some rains especially across the southeast part of North Carolina," said Sharpe. "In fact, Beryl is suppose to go over the open waters of the Atlantic looks like late tonight (Tuesday) or early tomorrow morning and when it does it may change back up to tropical storm strength but since it is moving away from the coast the effects on our immediate coastline will be pretty minimal.

Sharpe said the central and eastern parts of the state could get several inches of rain from the system. There are flood watches for several southeastern counties.
