(RALEIGH) -- The government's May jobs report is worse than economists had been expecting. The Labor Department says US employers created 69,000 jobs last month, the fewest in a year.
NC State economist Dr. Mike Walden says this is a disappointment. "We were expecting about 150,000 jobs. Sixty-nine thousand is much less than that. We've had a downward trend in monthly job gains. Although I should point out that these are job gains. We are adding jobs," he said.
The report also revised the figures for the previous two months down to show 49,000 fewer jobs created. It all adds up to an increase in the nation's unemployment rate to 8.2 percent.
