(RALEIGH) -- The state Senate budget plan for the second year of the two-year budget that begins on July 1st would provide some relief at the gas pump. Senate President Phil Berger said the state gas tax would be capped.
"The budget cuts and freezes the state gas tax at 37.5 cent per gallon. That's 1.4 cent per gallon less than the current rate," said Berger.
He added that the gas tax cut would be paid for by carefully managing road project priorities. "We make us for the lost revenue in transportation with reductions to non-essential road paving projects. Focus remains the same, to take care of the resources we have and finish the projects we've already started."
